Hi there I am working on the character creation tutorial by Johnathon Williamson . It is a good tutorial however when I get to creating topology for the head so I can sculpt he indicates to do it in dyntopo. When I use this with symmetry on the x axis it works however the topology will not increase when i use brushes over the surface like he does in the video. I tried using a subdivision surface modifier and that looked great but now it isn't mirroring the symmetry. Here are the pics. Also when I tried to take the subdivsion surface back into dyntopo it gave me this double geometry in the pic attached. Any help would be great thanks!
Hey springzephyr,
a link to the tutorial and the video would be great, so it's easier to check what we are talking about.
In my experience it's better to apply the Subdivision surface modifer before you start sculpting, if not things can get strange.
For the Dyntopo, make sure the checkbox is really checked:Next thing to check are the settings for Dyntopo. It's important to make sure these are set according to what you are going to do. Maybe rewind the video and take a look when he is adjusting his settings.
For me, when I use the default settings on the standard cube, the topology changes like this:
