Hi,
I'm trying to follow the CG Cookie sculpting tutorials but I'm struggling with many of the tools which don't act like they do in the videos, I try to copy the settings on the tutors screen but some of the options don't seem to exist (I guess they've moved or been renamed in the latest version), so I just wonder how others are getting around this? at the moment I'm just randomly changing settings in the hope of getting tools to act as expected.
I've tried a few different tutorials and keep coming across the same kind of problems, but as an example this was the video I last watched:
In sculpt mode I can't find the options threaded sculpt or unified size and strength... I'm not sure how important these options are but all I know is that the snake hook tool doesn't work as shown.
Any help or advice is much appreciated.
Hi mm0gduck,
some of the old options are not available in the new blender 2.9x versions. That's bad, but the CGCookie-Staff keeps updating their courses to blender 2.9 as far as I know. Maybe you have to wait some time, until they come around this cours.
About that snake hook, there are a lot of settings that can be changed like the "Fall-Off" curve. Maybe he made a change that is not in the video. Another point for this difference can be that the "Strength" of that brush is set to depend on the pressure he uses with his pen. Next thing to keep in mind is the topology and the amount of geometry. Are there more vertices? Is he using "Dyntopo"? Stuff like that can cause these issues.
For me the best practice is to pause the video and try to get the wanted result e.g. doing more strokes than the tutor since one stroke doesn't do the exact same what the tutor was doing. Changing the strength of the brushes or the detail size in Dyntopo are also options that I try.
I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I hope so.
Greetings,

Yeah, especially in the Sculpting department, things are changing very fast! ( Which is both good and bad...)
As to some of your questions:
'threaded sculpt' is now always enabled now (as far as I know). (Who wouldn't want that ;) )
'unified size and strength' was probably a mistake to begin with. (Who would want that ;) )
For the rest read ttobles text!
Thanks for the info, at least now I know it's not me that's doing something wrong.
Something else I didn't realize is that the tools react way differently depending on the current zoom level, not sure if this was the case in the older versions but I find it easy to get more detail just by zooming in.
Thanks again
