Late to the party due to a drilled through internet fiber, but I'm going to catch up. I picked to make some flowers since that's kinda my jam. I have modelled many flowers in Blender for 3D printing of jewelry. Making super low poly flowers that render well is a whole new challenge. My print files are atrocities to the eyes of any topology fan.
I chose to start with making some poppy flowers. They can be red and orange, matching the colors in the artwork. They also tend to grow in the wild in grassy areas.
So far, 445 verts for all of this :)
You're right, their strength is definitely seeing them scattered around the scene. Looks nice! Before you call it finished I would just like to see two finishing touches - some translucency so that the sunlight can filter through the petals and joining the pieces together such that there's only one object per flower. If you have the time, it may also be helpful to have one or a few small bunches of nicely arranged flowers all joined as one object.
Keep up the good work! When that's finished I think you'll be all set.
@jlampel The translucency is added and each flower is one object. I tried to join a patch as one object with geometry nodes (made a copy of the ground and didn't use the join geometry node), but this did not work. It's either an invisble plane with a geometry node making flowers, or it's nothing when the node is applied. Or there is a bunch of applied flowers on the surface, but it's just not a separate object of flowers.
daphne2 Great job with the flowers! This is an early test with the grass - more polish is needed - but the flowers look great already:
Thanks for joining Collab2021! It's been a pleasure working with you 🤝
Thanks @theluthier!
I see that you added the flowers as one clump. Have you tried adding the geometry node modifier on the ground and an empty for easy placement? Personally that's the part I enjoyed most working on. For me it made the placement of flowers feel very natural.
