This is an on-going thread documenting my progress through the 2021 Collab Project
Homework Submission - Week 1 - Wooden Canopy
@theluthier
Here is my blockout for the Wooden Canopy for week 1. I tried sculpting a little bit of detail here and there, but it's mostly just a blockout. :)
NUTS I'm sorry ffancypigeon. I promise I have a vivid memory of grading this and posting feedback (supported by the grade in the spreadsheet). Frustratingly this is the second time this has happened during the project.
Your blockout is great! I love the subtle offset rotation of each board - that kind of imperfection benefits a style like this project tremendously.
My only advice is to ensure that this canopy makes structural sense. More structural sense than the art work suggests. svetimas did a great job with this:
Note how the underside of the canopy has the necessary supports for the structure to make sense. The bare minimum of structure would be this:
A couple horizontal boards securing the slanted boards to one another.
Maybe you have this structure in your model but it's not visible in the screenshot and it looks like you haven't updated your WIP file in Google Drive with your model.
@theluthier Thanks for the feed back. Sorry for the delay. I'm trying to catch-up to the schedule. Here is the High-Res sculpted version of the wooden canopy, ("Attempted" sculpted version, I'm not very good at this. hehehe):
I also took your advice and added some structural support to the underside of the roof
And currently I'm about halfway through unwrapping the UV maps for the low poly model.
Oooo this looks wonderful ffancypigeon. Keep doing what you're doing! Can't wait to see how it turns out 🤩
@theluthier Finished painting the wooden canopy model. Here are a couple of screenshots in look-dev mode:
The material set up is pretty much the same suggested in the stream for the wainscoting
This has been a really fun project to participate in. :)
ffancypigeon, your wooden canopy looks great! I'd love to post your artwork in the TSMF Blog. Please let me know if you create a money shot / final render. If so, then it should be at least 1650x950 (letterbox aspect ratio).
Congratulations on completing the project!
Way to finish strong ffancypigeon! I only made subtle material adjustments and it fits in the assembly beautifully 🤩
Thanks for joining the Collab! It's been a pleasure working with you 🤝
ffancypigeon, Yes - it looks great! Thanks for updating your beauty shot. It has been posted to the blog.
