This is an on-going thread documenting my progress through the 2021 Collab Project.
...and this is a bit of extra text to avoid triggering spam-prevention.
bblendernan Just a quick reminder. We still need a name for our team? What's your vote?
1) Shabby Chic
2) All Access(ories)
3) Shabby Fresnel Chic
4) The Stan Dalones
duerer Thanks for the heads up, I've thrown in my vote over on the thread for (4) Stan Dalones 🙂
My first pass at blocking out the barrel came out like this:
I'm going to try a second pass based off of a lower poly cylinder, with one face per plank.
Okay, I think this lower-poly topology is going to allow me to get closer to the original art style.
Okay, after going through most of the treasure chest modelling tutorial, there's a lot about this I'm going to want to tweak. Also, I'm noticing the scale is off, mostly that it's too tall, when comparing to the existing blockout - because I didn't initially use the master camera's perspective/FOV. So lots of fixes to be desired...
With that said, I'm submitting what I have thus far for week 1:
Homework Submission - Week 1 - Barrel
@theluthier
Nice job on week 1 bblendernan! It's a perfectly adequate blockout and worthy of full points. It looks like you already have an idea about how you want to update / improve it. My only note would be that you could reduce the amount of horizontal edges so your faces aren't so skewed:
*Note I'm recommending to remove the red edges.
Have fun building this! Hopefully you enjoy adding sculpted accents in week 2 :)
Congratulations, bblendernan , to full points! I'm looking forward to your sculpted barrel 😀!
Hi @theluthier , duerer ,
I’m sorry, I haven’t made much progress since my week 1 submission. I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up for the week 3 and 4 submissions.
I got much busier than expected for April, and this was one of my first responsibilities to drop. I’ll still try to follow along roughly, but at this point I probably need to be dropped from the collab :(
I’m sure the final barrel will be fine in wograebn’s very capable hands.
bblendernan Real life has always priority! So, don't worry, you're always welcome 😀! And you're free to finish your barrel later if you wish it or to come back with a new project. In every case, I'm looking forward to your next creations 😀!
