Definitely NOT beginner friendly. Instructor moves too fast in a lot of parts especially when it comes to the finer details of the face.
I'm sorry to read this mmattsanity. Have you tried playing at 0.5x speed? Or do you have specific questions about this area that I can clarify?
I don't mean to be contrary, but I don't think he speaks particularly fast compared to other teachers, and you can adjust the speed. On an older hard surface modeling course for example I had to put all videos at 0.75 speed because johnatan speaks way faster than I could follow and goes back and forth as he goes. Sometimes it can be frustrating to learn something new and is easy to get angry at the teacher or your boss or colleagues etc, but personally it has brought me a lot further to take time to find what works for me, and make critisicm assuming first that maybe it's on me, and when i cant do that take a step back and come back later at it. Not always easy, not always works, but it also makes it easier for the teachers to improve and help you. There are many ways to get to this course. I had already done quite a few blender courses here but it was my first scultping course, so i was and am a beginner at it. Others might have more or less experience on blender itself as they approach this course, and everyone has their own learning curve and time, so it is going to be hard to match everyone. Personally I found it good. I first watched the whole making of the shark and then came back to the first video and started following. Maybe approaching it that way can help you as well? Takes a bit more time but you know somewhat better what is coming next as you are following, so I like doing this when i am completely new to something and need to figure out the tools as well as the actions themselves. I hope that helps you with this and any course/task you try in the future.
Hey mmattsanity and rrociwi ,
For some it maybe too fast for others it may become too slow. Every teacher has their own style of teaching, whilst every student has their own way of learning.
I have seen tutorials way faster than this on YouTube, for more views and more ad revenue probably 😵
As with fedepa21 , I find it useful to watch the lesson through once before I even open Blender. Then I will start the lesson again, this time I would follow along in Blender. It makes it easier, because you have an idea of what you are trying to achieve at any given point in the lesson.
You can watch the lessons as many times as you need too (with no ads).
Keep calm😐 and have a cookie🍪, you will find a way that works for you👍
When learning something new it is helpful to pause the video every 10 seconds or so to make sure you have grasped everything, then once you get the basics down you can watch at a faster pace. I started blender a few weeks ago and after doing several sculpting tutorials, it was a good pace for me.
