I am trying to give my frame a color like you do (11.23sec) but all I get is a standard Line....
Any advice or idea what that could be?

Make sure you have the Color box checked?

also in the Preferences I couldn't find anything wrong 😪
It must be a theme setting then. Check in your User Preferences > Theme > Node Editor > Frame Node
Make sure the A (alpha) setting is not set to 0. If it is it means it will always be 100% transparent. The default alpha value is 0.8.
