System freezes when cycles render mode

Hi guys!

Well, if I in "Rendered" view (by Z button) and choose Render engine "Cycles" my system fully freezes, and only reboot helps. The same effect I see if I try to open Edit -> Preferences -> System -> CUDA tab.

My system config is:

GPU: GeForce GTX 1650

CPU: Intel Core i5-9400F

OS: Ubuntu 20.04

I cannot find any crash logs (nothing in syslog and do not find any Blenders logs).

Did anybody ever faced such problem? Where can I look to understand the crash reason?

P.S. I can render within Eevee engine, but I'd like to try course recommendations.

perhaps drivers for GPU need updated?

Could you provide a link to your .blend file? (Through Dropbox, or something like that....)

I don't think it's a hardware issue and drivers should be o.k, as you are on Ubuntu, so I think it's most likely something in your file.

    (Try disabling Motion Blur...)

Here is my blend file. By the way, I use Blender 2.91

I downloaded your file , switched to cycles and it renders fine CPU and GPU. I can see no issue with the file with 2.90 and 2.91.

Make sure whilst rendering you don't have anything else running, change any settings in Blender or do anything else on your computer. I would usually do my rendering overnight or at the weekend and with any automatic updates turned off to avoid any issues when rendering.

    Eat cookies and carry on...

I'm sorry, but I can't get it to freeze my computer or crash Blender; everything works as it should. (Viewport rendered view, render image and render animation all work normally on my system and my hardware is a lot older than yours...)

Could it be your GPU driver like me1958424 suggested (you are not using the NOUVEAU driver I hope)?

    Try rendering with CPU....

Maybe have a Terminal open with HTOP, to see what is happening when your system freezes...

If your system freezes, that is not a crash, so Blender won't have written a crash report (which would be gone anyway when you've rebooted).

So, guys, I just downgraded NVidia driver from 450 to 440 and now everything works!

    Thank you so much!
