Smoothing creases?

Hi Kent

First of all, thank you for this course. You are a great teacher. I learned a lot.

Can I bother you with a question? What would you recommend is the best way to achieve smooth creases?

After applying shade smooth I got the following results:

Is there a way to remove or prevent these artifacts?

Really nice sculpt jjuliopalomino! Looks great even from these isolated screenshots.

Those artifacts are a sign that the geometry is too low-resolution. I usually experience this kind of low-res crease whenever sculpting with the Subdivide Collapse dynamic topology method, which always generates new topology according to a size threshold. Whenever using the pinch or crease brush with this method, the geometry will tighten AND regenerate itself constantly, resulting in a low-res crease that's never as tight as we want it.

Instead we need to use the Subdivide Edges method which only generates new topology above a size threshold. Once the geometry crosses below that size threshold then it maintains itself, allowing the pinch and crease behavior to continue tightening without regenerating the topology.

During the shark's nostril formation  (1:17-3:40) I briefly demonstrate the switch from Subdivide Collapse (for general shapes) to Subdivide Edges (for tight creases).

Thank you! I'll keep practicing, with that in mind.
