"Teaser" animation?

Hi!

First I would like to thank for this course! When I first saw that shark, I thought that there is no chance for me to make something so good. But, thanks to Kent, final result was much better than I expected. Kent is absolutely amazing at sculpting, and I hope that he will make more tutorials.

I have just one question regarding that "teaser" animation for this course, when shark "emerges" from the ball. Is somewhere maybe explained how can that be done?

 Thanks again!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the course @marinr! Means a lot to receive this positive feedback.

I've not shown how to achieve the spherical effect. Initially I was tempted to make a video but you're the first to ask about it! I'll try to explain the basic idea as clearly as possbile:

Morph your sculpt to a sphere. There's a handy tool in Blender that can transform any mesh object into a sphere using the existing geometry. In edit mode of your shark you can use the search function (F3 key by default) and type "to sphere" and choose the Mesh ▶ Transform ▶ To Sphere option. Then slide your mouse sideways until your sculpt becomes a sphere.

This is the foundation of the effect, 2 states using the same geometry: Sphere and Final sculpt. Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for your reply.

I will take this opportunity to tell you that right now I'm just watching, because it's too complex for me at this stage, your tutorial where you have explained the whole process for the animation of that parrot, I believe the name is Piero?

That's absolutely amazing how much talent and knowledge you have, I really feel privileged just being able to directly ask you anything here on the forum.

So, back to this question, yes, I think that now I have basic idea how to do that animation. I will try it once, and if something goes wrong, sorry, I will have to ask you again :-)

Thanks so much for the positive feedback! Means a lot to me. It's a privilege to share what I've learned and field questions  🤝

PS: One detail I left out of the general explanation for the morph effect was that you store the two states (spherical and fully-formed sculpt) within a shapekey which allows for easy morphing between the 2 states.  Conveniently here's a quick youtube video about using shapekeys to morph from a sphere to fully-formed model!

You are absolutely right @marinr , @theluthier is a fantastic tutor with amazing knowledge and overall a great guy. There are loads of good blender tutors out there but here at CGCookie you get the best of best. And the community is great also.
Ps. The cookies are good too.
