I love that idea about parenting because I had a lot of trouble on a more complicated character spine rig in my college class. I hadn't parented the bones in logical order, and although they were rotating properly, they breaking at the joints. My teacher helped me fix it, but now I'll just use your 'Whose your daddy' mnemonic-like trick! Thanks!
