Yes indeed it is!
I think the minimum hair segments is 2, but usng more won't make a difference. (Maybe less segments is faster?)
Thanks, spikeyxxx, and the minimum of 2 segments means that each hair has 3 parts with the "Segments" being the lines crossing the hairs as it can be seen here especially in the hairs growing upwards:
