PRESS START result Final

1 love

For whatever reason, I'd never really did the PRESS START course, so this weekend, I decided to do it. I haven't done a lot of n-gon modeling, so it was a nice change of pace from what I'm used to seeing.  I made a few changes to the schematics, based on my own original, non-color gameboy that's sitting on my desk right now, adding places for a power adapter, 3MM headphone jack, a spot for a link connection, and making the cartridge a bit thinner. (Believe it or not, the Gameboy cartridges were only about 2cm thick.) I also made the two buttons on the User's left hand side a bit closer to the same size. Finally, added a number of labels to the different things just using a text object that just barely stuck out from the unit just enough to see and feel but still also feel almost flush with the sides.

I added one little thing on the texturing. I tried going for the old "black on green screen" look of the old LCD display, complete with the "shadow" effect it had.

Had fun doing the cartridges. In addition to the CG Cookie's Eat Sheep (with artwork provided in the course files), I also made cartidges for Yo Frankie! and Dog Walk by the Blender Studio (using images from their respective press kits)

Even after spending years of doing different modeling projects, it's nice to do a simple one occasionally and you never know what you'll learn or hear something explained in a way that you never had heard before that might make something make more sense. (Sometimes, it comes from something the same person hadn't taught in previous courses before for whatever reason).  Anyway, this was a fun project to work on!

(Oh... and I did all of this in Blender 5.1 Alpha... which just goes to show how little the basics change from version to version. Outside of searching for the mapping node and some of the modifier changes already mentioned in the course comments, most everything else worked just as described in the course.)

Great result Grady. I believe you are the first one to give the console extra games to play with. A nice library of games is what will make this console sell billions of units.

When I decided to add extra games, the first two that came to mind were Dogwalk and Yo Frankie! :D I thought that last would be a nice touch for those who've been around Blender for a while :D

Trying to see if I remember anyone else adding a name to it :D Kamime comes from Bite mark (from Japanese) and Nexus has a nice techy sound to it, plus the connections :D
