My Result from the Sci Fi Helmet Course. The design process proved quite challenging to me but ultimately a very fun and rewarding experience. Something i'll defintely want to practice further.
Thanks for the course Kent! I really learned a lot and had a blast coming up with my version of the helmet.

Glad to see the sci-fi helmet is alive and well, your result is great. Two things got my attention, the lighting could be more dramatic, feels a little bit flat, you can exaggerate the contrast and maybe get some rim lighting to accentuate the hardsurface shapes of the helmet. Also in the animation, as the main plate is coming down, it feels very slow, remember how with Iron man it falls into place quite abruptly, with weight. That said the whole thing looks amazingly cool 🤘🏼
Thanks for the feedback Omar! The lighting and the faceplate where definitely two things I had to play around with a lot to get somewhere I'm more or less happy with. Making one big fluid motion for the plate coming down proved pretty tricky to pull of believeably, so I ended up breaking it up into multiple steps. But I also like how it drags out the sequence giving it a bit more gravity.
Reminds me of this course, still available on the Blender Market:https://blendermarket.com/products/hard-surface-modeling-in-blender Also, I'm not sure how you achieved this excellent animation, but again: I'm reminded of the Death to the Armatures book, by Chris Kuhn. I'm not sure if there is an online version: I have a Kindle edition since--actually, I'm not sure since when, but probably circa 2015-2016. It teaches how to animate just that kind of geometry, the hard-surface, techno stuff, using only constraints: I don't know about anyone else, but I was highly impressed by the results.
I know that course but I haven't gotten around to it yet. This was purely based on Kent Trammells Sci Fi Helmet Course.
I was thinking at first of doing the rigging with object constraints but i wanted to try and do it with an armature. With constraints I quickly end up with a bunch of empties everywhere and my scenes can get even messier than usual.
Amazing quality of work! Perfect texturing and render! The lighting and closeups with details are very cool. I wish you success in future projects
Thank you, Svetlana!
Awesome texturing!
Thank you!
This is phenomenal, Hugo! I can't stop watching the animation loop over and over 🤩
I'd love to include this in the 2023 CG Cookie Student Reel. I'm going to send you an email about it!
