This rifle would be difficult to hold: the magazine would foil the wrist. They place them in front of the pistol grip for a reason. Alternatively, I’d make it disk-shaped and attach it at the side somewhere.

Though you get solid foundations from cgcookies tutorials, the scifi rifle is good all around.
good place would be to start with cgcookie stuff, that gets you a long way with the tools and fundamendals.
