This room was created for the Low Poly Room assignment in the beginner's course. The only experience I've had in Blender before this was from a few tutorials on YouTube, most of which was just giving me experience using the software. After running through the beginner courses here with CGCookie, I wanted to commit to really learning modeling without tutorials.
Every object was made using some reference images found on Google or through pictures I have taken on my own. I put some time into eye-balling proportions, even though that's the least accurate way, it was the best way for me to focus on learning. My focus was to make everything feel cohesive, as if each piece belongs in the scene. I also tried selecting colors that work harmoniously, and went for a warm 'at-home' feel.
I'm happy with how this turned out as my first 'all on my own' project.
rhuard Thank you! I'm looking forward to what you come up with! My advice is to look at a bunch of pictures of rooms alike the one you plan to make and imagine what it'd look like if someone was in the middle of using it. That's what helped me, haha!
Woooh! Wow this looks great. I will be starting to model my room soon. Probably not this detailed though but someday! :)
antonioc missed my @ in my last comment, sorry
aabernier I'd love to learn how to reproduce this lightening on my own: do you have good tutorials I can follow ?

@wesburke Wow! Thank you so much for your kindness! I really wasn't expecting that out of my first project. I'm excited to keep learning and exploring!
blanchsb Thank you much! I might look into adding a Wireframe image, though it might be fairly messy looking.
Holy crap he just got staff picked! That is the big time my friend!
Great timelapse. I would also show a wireframe picture before the final render if it looks clean enough to show.
