A bit under a year ago I submitted my original 'Dragon-Fly' (a mythical dragon / insect hybrid) for feedback, and have now finally got around to applying said feedback to the concept, some of the changes made were.
- tweaked the shape and size of parts of the creature
- decided to make the creature more colourful
- removed the plain textures, and added details to the wings pattern
- worked on the pose to try and make it active
- added some hairs to the creature, think this worked really well
- found a branch on the walk to the shops that looked nice, so took many pictures of that as a reference to create a more realistic branch for creature to be on
- the original image did not actually use depth of field, it just had a blurred background, this time I tried a few depth of field settings to find a setting I liked.
anarchymedes it's all good, feedback is welcome :) this is one of the projects that I will be coming back to (probably multiple times) in the future, so that will be something to work on next time.
Now it could use some translucency/SSS over the body: the hairs were an excellent touch indeed, but the body still looks a bit like a velvet-padded plastic (yeah, I know: I keep grumbling about this just about every time someone makes publishes a close-up of a living creature. Sorry, I can’t help it: it’s just so glaringly obvious to me). ;-)
