Made this to test Blenderguru's Pro lighting skies demo.
Unfortunately I lost the Grass essentials pack, so I had to model it myself and my Géforce 9600 GT doesn't like particle systems...
I know there is still a lot wrong with it, but I have been working on this for so long that I can't tell how it looks anymore!
So I really would appreciate any comments!
Of course especially constructive criticism, because I am here to learn, but you can also say it if there is something about it that you like!
Thanks in advance.
Thank you cgfalcon , this was very long ago.
The garage door is horizontal, but the path is lower on the right side, which can be seen clearly when you zoom in. This was so on the reference image I used.
I don't think your grass is bad, it looks quite well for me. Can it be that the garage door is horizontally and the way to it as well?
All in all: I love it
spikeyxxx Of course. Looking forward to see your new architectural render!
CG Cookie doesn't show project date so I have no idea your project is older than Poliigon :)
Personally I found it's hard to make a descent looking material in Blender so I switched to Substance Painter. I think your render will improve a lot just by using PBRs from CC0Textures, Texture Heaven and Polligon,
relidin never be afraid to be harsh!
Yes,the materials are really bad (and the image compression didn't help there).
Made this after watching Andrew Price's Architecture Course. This was before Poliigon even existed ;)
What can I say, all your points are valid. Maybe I should try a project like this again and see how much better it comes out :)
Sorry I'm going to be harsh on this one.
Grass, sky and rocky path are good (but I doubt the rocky path can look bad from another angle), Trees in the background are too bright, especially that one in the middle.
Others:
1. Concreate road has an angle with garage door, and its material doesn't look like concreate,
2. Garage door is not metal or painted metal and it looks like wood
3. White wall doesn't have any patterns, should be better with a PBR brick texture
4. Window frames (both sides) look like carbon fibric, should be more like steel
5. Window frame (left) should have a lower horizontal frame.
6. Building to the right should have a thicker frontal wall
7. Desk in the building should be more detailed
8. Black and grey frames of the central building are too flat and look fake
9. All would patterns (especially the black one) needs to be adjusted.
Summary:
Minor problem in modeling, major problem in materials. If you are really into this you may want to check Guru's Poliigon.com
sshanr thanks.
I am not a big fan myself anymore, but he did 'help' getting me started with Blender. And this is quite an old project;)
I like it but i don 't Like Blenderguru
Thanks!
You make some good points.
I don't where that black border comes from; can't remember making that and I don't think it was there when I uploaded it...
"-but you can also say it if there is something about it that you like!"
XD I love this community. Oh come now, It not that terrible of a render.
The main thing concerning me is that massive black border. Though that appears to be a technical glitch of some sort.
Otherwise the house itself is well lit, and has decent composition. The foliage then balances it all out nicely.
The major improvement you could make is to the materials. Now I have to be careful because i'm not entirely innocent of this myself, but they are very flat. Namely the gravel walk and the driveway need some PBR love.
Maybe also drop some ceiling lights in the room on the right.
Looks appealing. Hope to catch you around the community
