A better attempt at texturing and shading an organic model. The modelling itself was very quick - I'm getting better at that. The texturing and shading took forever but I've learned a lot in the process that should make it easier next time.
ggoodorbad after a few different attempts I started with the colour pattern (partly using a stencil from a reference pic but mainly painting each dot in by hand), desaturated it and used it in a displacement modifier. It still didn't have quite enough 'oomph' so I made a normal map from it and added that as well. Was a lot of work but turned out pretty good
Ah, a fellow CG Challenger :-) I know the competition is tough, but I'd say you have a decent chance of winning - your render is definitely one of the most memorable ones, at least for me.
williamatics I never come close to winning but it is amazing how being forced to learn different techniques in a defined space of time helps the learning curve - since I started doing these my work has improved vastly

Wow! How did u generate the skin bump effect?
williamatics Ha thanks - honourable mention it was!
The contest ends in 2 hours. I wouldn't be surprised if yours won. It at least deserves an honorable mention.

Ah. I'm not good enough to stand a chance in one of those. Right now I'm practicing my hard-surface modeling.
williamatics Yep - it's the only way I ever get a project finished...
