Hi again! Here is my lastest work I created and entered in the #102 Weekly CG Challenge... and it won 1st place!! I would recommend anyone to try and give it a shot, it's been very rewarding for me! Modeled and textured in Blender, rendered in Cycles. Post pro done in Photoshop. As always all comments welcome.

Congrats Clayton.
You're really good!
This work is wonderful.
Thanks!
Nice layered composition with all the effects and passes - I also like the visual composition of the picture with the boats emerging from the haze and fire which provides a nice storyline in one image.
I rendered these alpha maps in the scene before post pro. I found the alphas online, I didn't have the time to make them myself (I usually like to make all my own textures) The fire was added in post pro, but the splashes are also alpha maps as well. Thanks again, I really enjoy learning new things as well, Cg Cookie is a great place for that!
Yes that helps a lot, thankyou for taking the time to reply.
When you say you used alphas, were these at rendrer time or Post? And were they like smoke and cloud alphas, or something else?
Also , where do you get your alphas, because I can never find any good ones.
Finally, did you use fire sim and ocean sim? Or were the fire and ocean splashes (like on the bow of the bpat) added in post?
Sorry for all of the questions, your piece is so interesting and so well done and I am always eager to learn :)
Thank you!
That's really amazing. Congrats on winning the challenge!
Thank you very much. So in this render I used multiple layers of alpha maps for rendering the atmospheric haze. I used a sun lamp and a HDR image for light. Then I spent a bit of time in post pro tweaking colours and touching up the image, highlighting and darkening areas as needed. I didn't spent as much time as I wanted to on this render cause of the deadline but in the future I plan starting another project similar to this one, only better :)
Hope this helps?
Very nice work , congrats :) .
May I ask how you give it an almost painted , artistic feel as whenever I render a model, It looks like a 3d render, nothing more. In your scene, you have managed to get a great atmosphere, and it looks almost like an incredible painting. Nomatter how much post processing research I have done, I have never found a way to capture the feel you have in this piece.
Oh ok, thanks!
