Quick test from a few years ago. I took pictures near my place, with simple white ojects. The goal was to mimin the photo.
I think Blender Cycles make a pretty good job with this subject. It's nice way to learn how real light works and how trick Blender to get close to it. For a free software, it's amazing.

Info: I cheat a little the render: the vertical harsh shadow was a straight line. I copied it from the photo and paste it on the render.
I was too lazy to model the brick wall...
