Thank you Sean for the detailed feedback. You're absolutely right. I started the scene mainly as a case study for the metal material. At the end I was quite happy with the result. So I quickly added the table and the curtains and a black background. Maybe it is worth creating a more detailed background scene.
Very nice! I was just about to tackle this subject myself. Excellent job on the texturing of the corrosion/mineral buildup on the surface. Also a great depth of field and very subtle chromatic aberration. The only slight criticism is the background is a little flat. Maybe a little more contrast in the objects there or perhaps just lowering the camera closer to the table surface to give a more extreme convergence of the lines as they recede into space?
