Here is my second submission for the Materials and Texture course
This one was challenging. The transparency and the high refraction index of the crystal was something I was timid about getting into, but after working on the meat study I felt confident enough to jump in.
I think the hardest part was not being able to rely on the geometry of the crystal facets to identify the material as crystal, trying to imagine the natural crystals cut and polished into the basic shapes was interesting.

mostly just observation and trying to paint what I saw... I would paint the shape as if it was pure clear crystal first and then I painted the occlusions on a separate layer with texture brushes. that way I could distort and warp the occlusions with photoshop to conform to the refraction of the different faces, like the top of the cylinder or the sides of the cube.
