Mars Mission render influenced by National Geographic's Mars issue. Modeled in Blender using Andrew Price's Physically Based Rendering materials as material bases, with HDRI background from Cycles Material Vault. The post pro was done in Photoshop, with a liberal use of lens flare. I also used the Filmic Blender color management setup. I don't know that I used it to full effect, but it certainly didn't hurt. The head mesh is a free download from TurboSquid with a basic skin and eye color added, even though it's mostly obscured.
