Made in Blender 2.67, rendered with cycles.
An artistic interpretation of the world wide internet connectivity I made to use as a backdrop in an article.
I was wondering if I could develop a technique to connect such individual nodes without having to model each link. This is what I did for those interested:
- Put spheres at each node
- Duplicate spheres and scale to single point, removing doubles
- Join all these vertices and connect some with edges to create links
- Subdivide the links once and create vertex groups containing the node vertices and the other vertices
- Scale the link vertices outwards from 3d cursor (you should get spikes)
- Subdivide further (like 10 times or so).
- Using the vertex groups, select all vertices except nodes
- Use smooth with multiple iterations to get nice links.
- Correct bad links by hand
- Change mesh to curves in order to render something.
If anyone has a better method, please share it with us.
