I have posted this image to show how I used Blender combined with Gimp 2.8 for a work project. The image shows part of a lead shield with a vinyl wrapped image applied showing the Turkish Flag and the Company logos of customer and supplier.
The shield is made up of 9 panels, each requiring an individual vinyl wrap to make up the whole image, using Blender to construct the model and applying UV mapping, it was possible to design the image texture to ensure the joints between the panels didn't fall on the main parts of the image.
The main image was used to get approval for the design from the customer in Turkey prior to shipping from the UK. The inner picture is the shield complete with vinyl wrap installed at the coal mine in Turkey.
Also the 3D Bretby Gammatech logo shown on the shield was the first project at the company to use Blender.
I could have used Solidworks, but the excellent tutorials on Blender Cookie, made it easier and quicker to design/create the image using Blender.
