My Entry for the CoCo Evil Cupid Winter Contest.
It took me about 2 full weeks, from starting to gather ideas, studing the anatomy of children and infants, studying bows, crossbows, assaultrifles etc, and making concepts till finishing the images. I did also a lot of research on valentines day and Cupid. So I discovered that the cupid representing Valentine's Day is not the god of love, but a Putto representing Cupid (also called a "amorino").
I tried to distinct my evil cupid a lot from the good one: Instead of a bow of love, he has a powerful, evil crossbow, which is superior in power; instead of fluffy angel wings he has skeleton-like demon wings; instead of blond, curly hair he is bold and has no eyebrows; instead of blue eyes he has red reptile like pupils that extend over his entire eyes.
I used the ambient occlusion tecnique explained by tsuaii. Painting the whole image took me about 16 hours.
