I used a couple of techniques shown in these videos, specifically starting with a random chaotic under layer to 'see' something new. Then I used a blurred photograph for colors, and used some texture overlays. I have worked similarly with physical media before, but it was much more freeing to do in digital paint. I didn't bother getting too detailed.
