I'm attempting to create, then rig a scale lunar lander of the Eagle. I'm currently working on the ascent stage. The only rule I'm making myself follow, other than attempting to keep it right is all the textures need to be materials using cycles, other than a few that can't be done that way (like the decals). I've done this project to both learn how to model and to hopefully rig an object so that the parts are easily movable and constrained.
