If you could find all the Blender users who are also Portal fans, I'll bet most of them have at least attempted modeling the iconic Aperture Science Hand-held Portal Device (ASHPD). I'm no exception.
The model itself really tested me, and at first I wondered if I had bit off more than I could chew. In the end though, I learned quite a bit. I believe modeling the ASHPD accurately is a good challenge for any intermediate modeler, such as myself, as there are a lot of techniques it presents that one should learn. It really requires some proficient hard-surface modeling skills.
The model is all quads (no triangles) and was rendered in an early version of Cycles (2000 samples).
