Price Change, Simplifying the Membership
Nov 9th 2017
Recently we launched a brand new version of CG Cookie with the goal to provide an engaging platform and experience for you to be a part of while learning to become a freelancer, getting a job in the industry or simply having a blast at your hobby.Â
Our mission is to go beyond being a training site.Â
Yes, your citizen subscription allows you to access hundreds of videos, arguably more hours than lecture hours of a $90k art degree, but that’s only the beginning. Going beyond video education, CG Cookie is a wealth of resources: engage with us and industry professionals through live events, challenge your skills with an exercise, gain critical feedback on your work in the gallery, monitor your personal roadmap and more.
We’re constantly trying to make your experience better and to do more to enable you. A side effect of this, unfortunately, is the need to revisit our pricing each year or so. It’s that time again.Â
After all of our research and testing we’ve landed on an updated pricing model that offers flexible payment terms with a straightforward offering.Â
Simplifying the Membership
Previously we offered two different monthly options, with and without downloads. This was intended to give more flexibility but in reality it just complicated our pricing for customers while adding complexity to the site. Not many people really understood the difference between “Citizen” and “Citizen Pro”, or “Basic” and “Pro”. We’ve decided to go back to basics. One plan, three different payment term options. What you see is what you get. Â
The new plans are slightly more expensive than their previous equivalents, $2 increase on Pro Monthly for example. This is necessary for the continued long-term health of CG Cookie.Â
If you're currently on the $21/mo Citizen Basic you continue to enjoy the lower monthly rate. If you'd like to add downloads, partner discounts and live event critiques you would need to update to the $29/mo Citizen Monthly, your first month will be prorated if you upgrade.
When is this happening?Â
The price change will take effect on November 14th, 2017.Â
If you have an active subscription then don’t fret. Your price will never change so long as your subscription is active. You’ll only pay the new price if you choose to cancel and then come back.Â
I imagine you have some questions, please post them below or email us. Additionally, I will be hosting a Live Event on Nov 15th @5pm covering Learning with CG Cookie.
Thanks for supporting the Cookie. 🍪
tthelexx I'm not asking how to download them, I'm asking if I'll be able to on a monthly subscription still running at $21 p/m.

@jonathanwilliamson What I mean to ask is, do I get to download the videos while paying $21 a month? Or do I need to start paying $29 for those perks?
What is "perks"?
I agree with the changes, this way it's simpler and I also think the prices are fair considering the (amazing) quality of the content. The only critique/suggestion/personal opinion I have is that, I find this happening to me:
I subscribe, I burn through all the content I'm interested in, and then I find myself not keeping the subscription simply because I watched everything I needed to, until enough content is released to keep me busy for another month. Subscribing gives you access to other perks of course like critiques etc. that are extremely good and I think you guys should focus on those perks especially and adding even more "live"/personal stuff to keep subscriptions going on, absolutely! That is what makes subscribing to you really, really useful.
But on the other hand I think some extra love could be given to those guys like me (but probably many others too) that for one reason or another are on the lookout for lessons only. For example, I wouldn't mind paying x dollars for a single course, every time one I like is released, or updated to a significant new version.
Anyways, pretty long comment sorry, but still want to make clear that I think you guys are doing an excellent job and there would be nothing wrong in giving priority to what is most convenient financially for you and disregarding what isn't, as most of us probably know that you can't pay rent or food just with good will, unfortunately :)
Cheers, and I hope many more will join the family, I for one will come back very soon!
And. The. Archive.
Bring. It. Back.
Currently I can not download HD videos. Does this mean I can after Nov 14th ? Many thanks.
Thahts quite a big price increase from 21$ to now 29$ as an entry point.
I find the price to be too expesnsive now for the content offered. New Blender courses are just added to infrequently. In addition i think there are alot of Tutorials on this site that lack real value and are more of "look like i do it" instead of explaining the meaning behind of it., I expect a increase of Tutorial quality for the price increase, The site just lacks to much stuff , there is nothing like a blender -Unreal workflow or really good topology guides and many videos are just outdated.
I don't mind the price increase, but I wish I could prevent auto-renewal. If I want one month, I'd prefer to buy that and not have to think about it again.
The thing that's great about the price change is now the Citizen Monthly can download videos witch is nice. So Monthly may be good later down the road If lets say I want to check up on CG Cookie, I can just get monthly and download the new coarse I've always wanted. And the price is still relativity cheap for what you get. But what ever you do please don't raise it again XD
