COLLAB.04 | TBD
"I like to think of ideas as potential energy. They're really wonderful, but nothing will happen until we risk putting them into action."
-Mae Jemison
Inspiration
Collab.04 is primarily inspired by the work of Alex Roman. His Third and the Seventh short film is widely considered an arch viz masterpiece that took CG realism to new heights. His lesser-known ad for a quartz countertop company is another big inspiration, alongside William Landgren's latest Blender short, "Untitled Spaces".
End Goal
Considering the inspirations, our end goal is a visual opera of photorealistic arch viz renders that dazzle the eyes and challenge perception with a touch of abstract style.
Emphasis will be on achieving realism in every discipline: modeling, texturing, materials, lighting, animation and rendering. The goal is beautiful yet efficient scenes with simple yet compelling camera work.
Contributors will be tasked with designing and creating 1-2 shots, between 5-10 seconds each. High quality standards will need to be met along with each shot fitting the broader narrative we will establish together.
When?
The Collab Period will begin on January 19th and will conclude on March 14th.
This 8-week period is an "all hands on deck" stretch where the bulk of production, all livestreams, and mentorship take place.
NOTE: It's likely that the short will not be 100% completed by the conclusion of the collab period. Historically, Kent needs more time to finalize post-production and editing afterward.
Curriculum
The SESSIONS courses will serve as the educational foundation. Both courses teach the art of doing more with less; creating compelling scenes in a shorter, efficient manner.
Each week of the Collab Period, on Tuesday at 2pm EST (UTC -5), Kent will host a relatively formal live stream. These streams usually last 2 hours and serve as team meetings to discuss status updates, direction and work review.
Kent will also host a second, more casual stream each week on Thursday at 2pm EST (UTC -5) where he will work on shots and be available to answer questions / troubleshoot.
