COLLAB.04 | TBD
"I like to think of ideas as potential energy. They're really wonderful, but nothing will happen until we risk putting them into action."
-Mae Jemison
What are we making next??
This question is one of the best parts of the Collab format! We have the freedom and skills to make whatever we please. As a previous collaborator put it: "That feels like some cinema-quality stuff, and WE did that. I feel like we can do anything!"
-Jake Korosi
When?
Right now we're in the early stages of planning Collab.04 but we expect it to happen in 2025.
What?
Ideas have been percolating since Collab.03 ended. We've narrowed them down to 3 that we feel best fit our goals of doing something different, tackling new skillsets, and evolving our pipeline.
We need your help deciding! Check out each project's blurb and vote your favorite by filling out the survey at the bottom of this page. In no particular order:
Project ROMAN
Alex Roman's legendary work inspired an entire generation of CG artists. Most are well aware of his "Third and the Seventh" short film, considered to be an arch viz masterpiece.
His lesser-known ad for a quartz countertop company is another inspiring bit of CG work. Notable for it's subtle narrative and clear direction.
We believe Roman's work can inspire a jaw-dropping Collab project.
Project D.E.S.
"Eat Sheep" is a CG Cookie IP that started over 10 years as a mobile game. You may recognize the main character, Melvin, from several course appearances and branding. A second game and animated short have been attempted through the years but neither made it to completion.
Can we carry the torch as a collab?? We believe so! A short based on the Eat Sheep world would be our first foray into a character-animation pipeline. We'd have access to a treasure trove of existing assets, art, and storyboards left over from previous projects.
Project GROOVE
Kent streamed an artist study on Beeple back in 2018, before his historic NFT auction (for the record 😉). Beeple in part made a name for himself by creating and distributing mesmerizing VJ Loops for free under the Creative Commons license.
This project would be inspired by such VJ Loops as Beeple and others. We would choose a music track, likely CC for licensing convenience, and each collaborator would create a unique 3D loop sequence timed to the track. Ideas would be mostly free-form with direction for quality assurance and appeal. The final video would feature all loops strung together into a seamless visual experience.
