QUESION: can boolean and subd workflows be combined in one model?

true, but booleaned objects still transfer fine between apps (max, modo, Blender,zbrush all fine in my tests)
Booleans is great with dyntopo sculpting :)
Greg, yes, booleans needs cleanup.
yes, all transferable in my tests but you can run in some "smoothing" issues for your complex boolean assets but usually they can be resolved easily.
