Abridged Recording
This is an edited version of the stream with limited rabit trails, chat interaction, and flubs. Also don't forget that speeding up the playback is a wondering tool for watching long-form videos!
'Cause I only have eyes for you 👁️
Creating believable eyes is like a "rite of passage" for character artists. Personally, hand-painting and photo-sourcing eye textures has always been more annoying for me than enjoyable.
Recently I tried creating a fully procedural eyeball material and it was more straight-forward than I anticipated. And that's what we will do during this stream!
Uh oh we are scailing the eye =/
Kent question below Matthew
[Q]Now that you mention Cycles, will this material show up well in a Cycles render?
When I paint portraits, I always just slightly blur the edges of eyes' pupils so to make sitter look soft, not hard.
[Q] If the pupil were extruded into the ball, would the texture still work?
Portraitist's tricks.
[Q] How flexible is the material? how easy is it to change the color or make like black devils eyes?
Sharpening the edges of pupils makes a model looks starry and serious. Slight blurring softens the model's eyes.
Cosmos intro first minute has a really cool close up eye. https://youtu.be/2osHL4B2yGE
When it is compiling it is the "Bran Eyes" when he goes into crow mode
