Consider a Plane, bend it into a Tube and then bend it again into a Torus...Still a 2D plane..

It's not a 3 dimensional object, but a 2 dimensional object in 3 dimensional space, like a circle is a one dimensional object in 2 dimensional space....but this probably won't help...
