Project Durian (named "Sintel") was the Blender Institute’s third movie. The movie started production in September 2009 and was premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival at the end of September 2010. With a much larger team and bigger budget, the targets were very ambitious, resulting in a 15 minute short film that has found much acclaim on the web; story telling and editing were top priorities for the team.
Development targets mainly focused on getting the Blender 2.5x series more stable and usable, improving the sculpting tools, efficient detail rendering and global illumination. - Excerpt from blender.org
Sintel was the first project that convinced Kent Trammell of Blender's legitimacy as a professional-quality 3D production software. It also landed on Tim Von Rueden's radar when it was shown in class while he was in college studying 3D animation - yeah, 3D animation. Join Kent, Tim, and Lampel as they dive into the film!
I spent like 4 hours yesterday looking for what I wanted to make for the class lol
I've always liked that ship
We'll see, maybe they'll revamp the hair system before then
For the next live stream class, I'm thinking of doing the Normandy SR1 form Mass Effect
I have some ideas for some shorts, and when I eventually get around to them I was thinking of using hair cards! That way I could rig it and have it behave the way I want to.
Very likely. Geometric hair (especially hair cards) has come a long way since 2010 though.
😵
They should have just used geometry hair. Probably would have been way easier!
Models in one file, link them in the texture file, then link that one in the rigging, then link the rigged one in the animation, then link that one to a master file where you link the animation data blocks
Hair seems like a notorious monster for the Sintel team ha
