The Lucas shorts could TOTALLY be done in Blender. They're absolutely cute but nothing groundbreaking in terms of animation/rendering quality

  • Char Hunter(Char)

It according to how you put it out there Kent, we see the techincal side of the spider, others see the cuteness

  • Jake Korosi(jakeblended)

But, it doesn't seem to me like there's any reason a short like that couldn't be done in Blender of course.

  • Kent Trammell(theluthier)

Piero kicked my arse so hard...but I'd love to do something like that in the class format

  • Jake Korosi(jakeblended)

There's a short making-of video about Lucas, it showed a few screenshots of the 3D software the artist used. I could see that it wasn't Blender, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to see exactly which one it was.

  • Jack (jack07)

Maybe we could have different classes that culminate in making a short at the end of the year...

  • Kent Trammell(theluthier)

I'm astounded that Lucas is so popular. I mean, cute CG shorts are a dime a dozen...sooo interesting. Good for the artist. I love to see him succeeding doing what he loves

  • Omar Domenech(dostovel)

It is a lot of work of course, just for a 15 second clip like that, it goes all the way in the CGI pipeline, to camera tracking and compositing

  • Char Hunter(Char)

    yeah we could Omar

  • Marjolein (valandrath)

    Lucas is sooo cute

This event is part of the March 2018 Class, "Creating Stylized Characters with Blender".

Like Dorothy, our characters have so far lived in a black and white world. This week we’re leaving Kansas and adding color. There’s many methods for creating our character texture(s) including hand-painting, baking maps that accent the painting process (great for the less painterly character artists), as well as photo-sourcing. There's also a couple different formats: Vertex Colors and UV/Textures. All things we will be discussing!
