This event is part of the January 2018 Class, "Getting Started with 3D Modeling & Blender".
Digital sculpting is the more artistically intuitive method of 3D modeling. If pushing and pulling verts felt like the hard way of doing things, sculpting will be a welcomed alternative!
This stream collaborates with the Fundamentals of Digital Sculpting course. We’ll be discussing/demonstrating the pros and cons of digital sculpting as well as how it compares to mesh modeling. Again, practice makes perfect with any craft, so we will practice sculpting as well. Bring your questions and be sure to have your pen and tablet ready to practice with me!
Really fun to watch
There are quite a few tutorials on CG Cookie about sculpting and retopology
Oh alright. Thanks for answering!
ggeorgeo1989 No idiotic questions here at all! Retopology is like rebuilding a sculpture's essential shape with clean, animation-friendly topology. And that new model is created by sticking to the sculpting (like a magnet) so it preserves the shape of the sculpt. Then details can be transferred to from sculpture to the retopo'd model either geometrically or via texture map bakes.
Not if, with*
Retopo is basically re-drawing your mesh if far less polygons and good edge flow
Don't worry, ask away, there are no silly questions
not blender, for the descent underground project i'm doing 3d concepts.
I know I'm firing a million idiotic questions but now that I'm reading about retopology does it essentially create a mask with far less triangles than an HD mesh which will allow you to render an animation?
ahwell.. it happens. i need to brush up my sculpting though. i havent really done proper sculpting since the character course you had Kent. so this will be refresher. :)
