Subdivide, Fill, and Merge

To subdivide an edge is to split it in half. When you subdivide a face, all sides of it are split in half and the vertices connected. It's a simple procedure, but one of the most common tools in computer graphics.

In this lesson, you'll also learn about the Fill, Grid Fill, Make Edge / Face, and Connect Vertex Path tools and when to use each of them.

We also talk about how it's possible to accidentally leave vertices directly on top of each other, which can cause all sorts of confusion. To remove duplicate vertices, use Merge by Distance.

Some important hotkeys to remember from this lesson are:

  • F: Make Edge / Face
  • J: Connect Vertex Path
  • M: Merge menu
