single basics

Moving from Blender 2.7 to 2.8

Instructors:
Kent Trammell, Wayne Dixon, Jonathan Lampel

Blender 2.8 is a major upgrade!

Change may be difficult though, especially if you're a seasoned pro and are used to doing everything a certain way. This free course will concisely show you what's new, changed, or moved in 2.8 without you needing to sit through yet another beginner tutorial that explains how to move vertices around. Blender 2.8 is not without its quirks, and this course will guide you through how to work with them or around them.

Blender 2.8 tutorial series: Model, Texture and Share a Treasure Chest

Blender 2.8 user interface and viewport has changed quite a bit

From new selection defaults to new menus, we'll give you the highlight tour and point out which areas may not work as expected.

3D modeling is faster than ever

With new tools and faster ways of switching between modes, Blender 2.8 makes modeling much more beginner friendly. Power users also benefit, especially when it comes to organizing scenes using collections.

Animation tools were shuffled around

Some key changes like multi-object pose mode make animation in Blender 2.8 a whole lot easier! When it comes to linking characters and opening old projects though, things occasionally can get a little weird. We'll show you everything that's changed so that you won't have to scratch your head!

Rendering takes a quantum leap forward

You'll likely have already heard all about Eevee and seen how cool it can be! To save you time we won't go into how it works in this course (for that you can watch this course on Blender 2.8 production design, read this article on Eevee vs. Cycles, or take any of our 2.8 rendering courses), but we will show you common points of confusion and how to resolve them.

Did you hit a roadblock while jumping from 2.7 to 2.8? Let us know in the forum! If it's something that is likely to trip up others as well, we'll add it here. This course will continue evolving until 2.8 is well established.

This course is not...

An introduction to Blender or an in-depth explanation of its features. For that, head on over to one of our several Blender 2.8 courses!
