2:13 - instructions on how to add the UV Grid texture

You see an Image Texture node being created and them BOOM! a UV grid appears. However the default generator type is blank. So the chances are you'll need to select the generator type dropdown and set it to Colour Grid before you can progress.

Whatever option was last selected then stays as the default option till you change it again. Eva's is set to Colour Grid because she's run through this already and so that's why she doesn't need to set this from Blank to Colour Grid. I can't recall this being shown in any previous lessons so if you don't know how to do this chances are you'll be stuck.

Alternatively

  1. Go to the UV Editing/UV Editor window -> New Texture and in the Generate Type dropdown select Colour Grid and name it.
  2. Now go back to Shading / Shader Editor -> Add Image Texture and in the image select dropdown you'll see Colour Grid filename you used. Select that option.
  3. Connect Principled BSDF to the material output

The Colour grid is now displayed on the model. UV Grid is a similar checkerboard pattern but has less info on it so it's harder to spot stretching, direction and orientation issues.
