[might have got your attention if there are any CAD/engineering types around - artists will tune out]
It has probably been said that "Blender isn't an optimum CAD tool." That being said, I would suggest that it is exactly one-half of an optimum CAD tool. Because...
My use case might be a little unusual, or not. I work with a non-profit, designing custom furniture (of industrial cardboard, for children with special needs). Blender is by far the easiest way for me to create and arrange parts until satisfactory. Our dream (it actually happened once) is to sit with a client in real time and move parts around until the requirements are met.
The second half of the design process is producing dimensioned drawings. This is very tedious in Blender. Although it is doable (I have been doing it for quite a while - learned some tricks after lots of trial and error).
It would seem that an add-on, or export to another tool, could assist in the documentation part. I've read some scattered posts, and a number of people have spent some effort on this, but I don't think anyone is totally satisfied. I've foolishly started down a couple of trails that seem to have some promise for my needs, although pretty massive effort remains.
I was just wondering if this piques anyone's interest?
I do try to do the "normal art thing" as much as I can find time for. But I seem to keep finding more uses for Blender...
