So, as I use the inflate brush, I notice more faces are being made as you smooth it out, however, when I try to inflate that boxed like area, new faces don't get added. I'm so confused. Any suggestions?

Me too — I have the same problem I believe. I'm using Subdivide Collapse.

I've discovered the problem. I had enable Dynotop but then, accidentally turned it off again using Undo without realising.
