Convert to mesh keep bool spheres

posted to: Dice Modeling

Using 4.53LTS I muddled through this as there's expected difference but kind of got there. Side 6 was a complete pain and had to fiddle to ensure the hole edge didn't overlap or didn't cut some. Ended up with a nice die that match and looks good. The booltool must work different now though as get a sphere object for each joined set of hole linked under the cube (so x6) and an object under a header called boolean_cutters

When I go to convert this to a mesh all the modifiers linked to the cube, one for each sphere, disappear as expected but the bound boxes don't. If G the cube as in the vid they are all attached to the cube still. Switching to edit mode on the cube doesn't show the holes only the beveled outline.

Have I done something wrong or is this just how the later versions work?

    Hi Andrew,

Convert To Mesh Applies the Modifiers on the Cube, it doesn't remove any Cutters.

There is indeed a difference in the Bool Tool, as it now also Parents the Cutter to the Object (as you can see in your Outliner), that is why the Spheres move with the Cube.

That you can't see the 'holes' in the Cube in Edit Mode is something that I can't understand.

Perhaps you can upload a short screengrab video of your screen? Showing us the issue and your setup. With Blender is always some small insignificant thing that is messing things up and giving you a headache.

Thanks for the replies. I think my confusion re the cutter was that the video showed the cube detaching from them when grabbing and moving whereas mine stuck to the cube. I guess the parenting is why and the outliner change just added to the confusion whether I'd messed up.

I did make progress with the holes not showing. I think it was related to the cutter edge meeting the cube overlapping with another. The cutter area was fine to overlap but not the connecting edge. I resized the cutter slightly to avoid and got holes for all.

I see why I didn't spot this now, the transport strip covers this part when you have the video full screen!!
