Complex Grill Meshes

Question Modeling

Hey, I recently saw a short about a 3d printed helmet that used a mesh visor rather than a see-through one, and was curious as to how I could create something similar in blender?
Here is the link to the short:

I havent really been able to produce reliable and satisfying results using modifiers, since its always destorted the holes.

Any ideas? Modifiers / Geo Nodes?

Hi Pascal, these kind of things are indeed hard to get right.

So far, I found the best way to do it is, to use the Tissue Addon (in the Extensions). I get Errors in 5.0, but it works fine in 4.5LTS.

Make your desired shape and Remesh it (to get more or less evenly sized Faces). It's a bit hard to show, but here's Suzanne Tessalated with a simple octagon:

Note: use Relative Thickness in the Tissue Settings.

Would something like this work? (Curve/Knots/Celtic Links)

Or this is another cruder technique

If you increase the resolution of the lattice, shouldn't that prevent it from skewing? Since it skews because there isn't enough slices on the lattice.
