Jan started Blender training

Polybooks

Hey there, I am new to CG Cookie. Some tutorials start with a snowman, so I just made one myself after 3 days of hours of watching videos. Fidgeting in Blender so much, until I found how to change material properties and sculpted a bit...

That's a great looking snowman, Jan!

Woah! The render blew my mind when I saw it, haha.

Definitely outside the scope of modeling with primitives, as mesh editing is apparent, but this result is a breath of fresh air injected into the collection of snowman renders from that course, including my own...

    Nicely done!

I don't know why, but the hat reminds me of Vivi from Final Fantasy IX. XD

Hah yes, I get that with Vivi!

Yesterday I tried to combine noise textures to displacements and also used subsurface scattering with a blue tint, rendered a bit longer then. A few tweaks later I improved my snowman more :D

I see why the middle ball is more noisy than the rest. I used the object as mapping for the noise and the middle topology is one subdivision modifier higher, so more fine snow-detail. Could just apply one more SDM to the other 2 balls and lower the noise detail, or decimate the middle one...but...I think for "starting" I already overdone this snowman project and should move on xD

Wow super update, it now looks very realistic. One of the best snowman's we've had man, nice.
