Is there any reason the mirrored speaker would still kick off to the left if the origin is in the middle of the world ?

The Mirror Modifier works perfectly, so:
Maybe your Origin is not exactly in the 'middle', or your model (ie. the console itself) is not completely centered....
It is possible, that you did something else wrong, but I can't think of anything. Add a screenshot (preferably the whole UI, including the Modifer) if you're still stuck.
The speaker itself stopped giving an issue somehow but now the circles are doing the same thing, left one kicking off spikeyxxx

Just two notes, that might be helpful:
- The Location in the Transform of the N-Panel shows the Location of the Origin (of the Active Object) when you are in Object Mode. As you can see, it's X Location is not zeroed out...meaning the Origin is not in the center of the 'World'.
- Your Background Image is also not perfectly centered, so don't get too distracted by that.
