Roman camp Work In Progress

Personal work. Learning how to use 3d for quick blockout. Made for practice composition, storytelling , color and atmosphere. Failed to give it finished look :)

    The composition is not great, I see it now. Should've done more rough sketches before jumping into 3d. Actually this is my main problem I'm struggling with - always rushing to get a pretty picture.

    As for a process - I'm new to 3d so all textures and grass are photobashed in Photoshop.
    Rendered grass wasn't so good so I found much more appropriate photo.

    My knowledge of anatomy also leaves much to be desired.

    I have so much to learn!

    Hi anvikli, I'm here to answer your request for critique :)

    First off, beautiful work! Your lighting treatment is wonderful. My father loves American Civil War paintings and this style reminds me of it. Which is a compliment.

    Is that foreground grass 3D or painted or photo-sourced?

    My main critique point is the framing. The more I look the more I notice that most of the frame is occupied by that side of the tent. While this does make for a non-distracting background for the foreground centurion, I think it starts to make the overall image less interesting. Compared to putting the camera in the street, for example. I guess the key question I'm left with is "why this angle?"

    One other small-ish note is that everyone's legs seem a little skinny and short. Like 10-15% too short/skinny. I suppose I could be wrong about that and the upper body armor is creating that illusion..

    Other than that, I really like the work you've done! 👏

    Yep, humans are my weakest spot for now )

  • 0.0 This looks like something straight out of a film. I think it's very well done. The only thing i find a little off, is the posture of the lone roman soldier to the right.
