Congrats to the winners and a big thumbs up to everyone who participated in this first the CGC Challenge! I really enjoyed seeing all the different ideas that sprouted from this topic. You all made some awesome renders! Hope you had fun and maybe learned a thing or two π
Watching all your work I came to realize that it's not so much about the render engine, but more about you as an artist and finding a way to get the results you want, getting creative with it. Because let's face it, both the Cycles and the Eevee renders have the potential to look amazing.
Closing Thoughts
I'm always thinking of ways to improve these Challenges. One thing I noticed this time was that the community interaction was fairly low throughout the month. While it makes sense that participants retreat to their separate "caves" to work on their submissions, I think everyone would benefit more if consistent WIP (work-in-progress) was posted with advice and critiques shared with each other.
So for the next Challenge Kent and I won't be judges. Instead we want to be available to help you (the participants) with WIP during the challenge, and since judges can't be objective if they're available in this way weβre giving our spot to someone else.Β
For the duration of the Challenge I will be available in the forum to answer questions and give advice/critiques, while Kent will host a live critique stream after 3 weeks for participants who want it. This way thereβs more room for everyone who joins to learn and progress within the Challenge experience! π
What do you think of these Community Challenges? Let us know in the comments below!

Congrats to the winners!
Regarding the participation point: maybe the theme was a bit too general and could be more specific in the future ? Creativity reaches its maximum potential when constrained :)
Well done again and great organization ! I'll be curious to see the next topic :D
Awesome! I think the challenge needs some time to get more participants too
It was a great challenge; congratulations to the winners! Maybe next time I'll start earlier than I did this time. Ha ha! I was rushing, so I couldn't show a WIP set. :( I'd love to get feedback on how to improve, but this next challenge will probably be a great time to do it!
beefkeef Glad you enjoyed it :) looking forward to seeing you again in the July challenge!
Congrats to everyone that took part there were some really great entries I thought!
I enjoyed the challenge, I found it motivated me to make something rather than just thinking about doing so! (which I'm guilty of doing a lot of the time) Thanks ssmurfmier1985 for organising I'm looking forward to seeing the next one in July
@cgcookiedough I liked your WIP thread Dough :) hope you'll be able to join again for the next one!
spikeyxxx true that! And I'll hold you to your promise of fully joining in the challenge experience π
swikni Awesome Jere! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the next one :)
Great renders!
I missed the deadline due to some illness, but I really love the idea of these challenges.
Personally, I am always a bit afraid of posting WIP; I have a feeling, that I won't finish something if I show something that isn't ready yet (I know, it's a stupid superstition...), but I will try and prove myself wrong next challenge! I will participate, post WIP's and finish the project!
And yes, Miranda, one render engine isn't better than the other, it's all about the work, not about the tools;)
Sharing more WIPs would definitely be helpful in most cases. These aren't too serious competitions after all so there is not so much of a reason to hide your work or anything. Posting incomplete work has always felt weird to me so maybe I'll try to focus more on that next time. Critique stream also sounds awesome! Count me in.
Congrats to all the winners! (including myself yay!) Can't wait for the next challenge
