It’s been more than a decade since I started my journey in 3D graphics. My first attempt was to design “The Ring of Power” from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy since this was the most obvious and simplistic object for a beginner at the time.
The approach I had in mind was to create a realistic 3D replica from the movie. Yeah, I set myself high standards, only to falter.
I failed miserably, however after many several attempts, I finally designed what I thought was a decent render, but did not quite meet my expectations. See link below…

Over the years I have accumulated so much wisdom and invested so much time. I’ve decided to revisit this project and apply the knowledge I now obtain. Also, a great way to see how much I have improved over a decade.
I still need to add micro-displacement details that displays surface irregularities. I'm quite certain that Gollum dropped this ring more than once.
NOTE: The reason why there is no Elvish inscription on the ring is that I am planning to animate that part.
beefkeef Thank you so much for your kind feedback Keith! 😊 🙏 Loved your shark project. Incredible work there too. 😊 Thanks again.
Wow! That looks incredible, as Ingmar mentioned - this looks like it came straight from the film production 👍 Stunning job!
Also a massive fan of those movies here, they are pretty much on constant repeat in my house 😃
@adrian2301 Thank you for your kind feedback Adrian. 😊 🙏 Yeah, indeed it took me a great deal of time, especially considering the fact that I was still a noob back then. I agree with you wholeheartedly, the best movie trilogy and top of my list. 😊
bc_griffin I checked out your Instagram post, A nice animation for back in the day, would of taken a lot of time and patients. You certainly have talent Sir.
The best movie(s) of all time in my opinion. I started reading the books recently and enjoying them also 👍
